Sisters of the north's Board
Isabel Flemming - Chairperson
Malin Backgren - Vice Chairperson
Josefine Backgren - secretary
We who run Sisters of the North are not just board members—we are also long-time friends. Together, we decided to start the organization after Isabel had been on several volunteer trips to Greece and France. We share a deep passion for equality, human rights and hands-on humanitarian work, and with our different experiences and skills, we complement each other in a natural way.
Malin is the creative force in the kitchen, always making sure our events offer something delicious. She also creates handmade products, such as her crocheted headbands, which are sold to support our work. And as a vice chairperson, she also helps out with boardmeetings and other organizationtasks.
Josefine manages administration, ensuring that membership records are up to date, membership cards are sent out, and all members are informed about their benefits. She also takes care of meeting minutes and other administrative tasks, keeping the organization well-structured and organized.
Isabel travels and gives lectures about our fieldwork. After numerous volunteer trips to France, Greece, and India, she has gained deep insight into the needs on the ground and shares these experiences through trainings and collaborations. Isabel also takes care of our collaborations and the development of the organization.
Together, we manage the organization’s operations and ensure that everything runs smoothly, both in Greece and in Swedish-speaking Finland. To ensure that our finances are handled correctly, we work closely with Maritima Oy, which manages our bookkeeping.
For us, transparency and credibility are essential. We want everyone who supports us to feel confident that their contributions reach those in need and that our work has a real impact.
